Newborn Photography

FAQs

What is birth photography?

Birth photography is a story-telling approach to documenting your baby’s first moments and the amazing adventure of labor. It’s real, it’s emotional…it’s the most incredible day of your life, captured forever.  http://julianevansphotography.com/what-is-birth-photography/

Do you take pictures of the whole labor and birth?

I will arrive when you are in active labor and will stay for about an hour after the baby arrives.

Will you post the photos on the internet?

Only with your permission, and only the images that you approve.

Will we meet before the birth?

Yes. I like to meet with each birth client during the third trimester to discuss expectations and answer any questions they may have.  This is usually a casual meeting at a local coffee shop and lasts about 30 minutes.

How long will you stay? What if I have a long labor?

I will stay for as long as necessary.  Having had three babies of my own, I understand the unpredictable nature of labor and birth.  And I will always come prepared to stay for an extended period of time.  I may step away for breaks at times – to get a snack or drink or just to allow you some private time – but I will never leave during transition or if it appears that the baby could arrive quickly.

What if I have a c-section?

I have photographed many c-section births and I am quite comfortable going into the OR if you need a c-section.  It is important, however, to get approval from your doctor beforehand, just in case this happens.

When should I book you?

I only book 2-3 birth clients each month to ensure that I am available when you go into labor.  That said, the earlier in your pregnancy that you contact me the better chance I will be available.

Do you offer discounts or take payments?

I do not currently offer any discounts on my birth photography services.  A 50% deposit is due at the time of booking with the remaining 50% due after birth but before the delivery of your images.

Do you use a flash? What if I want my birth dark?

Typically, I do not use a flash.  My camera handles low-light situations quite well and I actually really like the natural grain and raw emotional feel that it creates.  If, however, a flash is absolutely necessary, I will ask beforehand.  My goal is to be unobtrusive and allow you to labor naturally without any distractions from me or my camera.

How many photographs will I get?

You will receive a minimum of 75 high-resolution, fully-edited images from your birth.  Most will be shown in black and white.

How long will it take to get my photographs?

Your images will be ready approximately 3-4 weeks after your birth.  Custom albums may take longer.

Do I get all of my digital images? What if I want prints?

Yes.  Birth Stories are all-inclusive which means that it includes a USB of at least 75 high-resolution digital images.  You will receive a print release allowing you to print your own images up to an 8×10 size.  Professional prints can also be ordered through me.
